APW 2010: THE ENDS OF ANALYSIS

What are the ends of analysis? In our culture, we are told that analysis is in decline or has reached its end. Contemporary science would like to reduce analysis to its outcomes, which it deems inadequate because science can only account for very limited ends: changes in behavior or relief from symptoms. But beyond that limited scope, there are other ways to attest to analytic ends: transformations of jouissance and subjective structure, traversing fundamental fantasies and realizing subjective destitutions, as well as new ways of relating to a symptom that became a sinthome. Drawing on all the several formulas of analytic ends proposed by Freud and Lacan, what account can we give of the ends of analysis? Our conference will explore the aims and exits of the analytic clinic through papers and case presentations. We'll examine the therapeutic, theoretical, and cultural Ends of Analysis.

APW and the San Francisco Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis (LSP) are collaborating to bring you a wonderful experience.
